My son has studied with Ms. Wesley for a little over a year and has grown quite adept in a short amount of time. Ms. Wesley is a dedicated and patient teacher who is able to hold the attention of children while making learning fun. She has been able to do this even in the new Zoom learning environment that we all now face. Additionally, she has also made it possible for outdoor in-person lessons along with productions in the park. We whole heartedly endorse Ms. Wesley and her curriculum and recommend her to any interested in learning the cello.

I currently have a few spots open in my D.C. home studio. All lessons currently take place with masking protocols. Get in touch to inquire with any questions or to set up a trial lesson!

A bit on my teaching philosophy:

As a Suzuki Certified teacher by the Suzuki Association of the Americas, I believe the success of the student is highly contingent on relationship established between the teacher, student, and parent. It is the teacher's job to access the student’s potential, understand their learning styles, and bring them up to their highest potential of playing.

I also strive to instill and promote the importance of passion, drive, and commitment into all of the cellists I teach. It is so important for teachers to be able to ingrain this sense of dedication by inspiring the student and showing them how wonderful it can be to study music and the cello. Furthermore, I try to cultivate a healthy spirit of curiosity and interest with how cello playing works, rather than being bogged down with faults and failures.

A student can only be as good as their practice habits, so I approach cello playing and teaching with a methodical approach. In my lessons, I explain ways of smart practicing, and give my students exercises and tools that I’ve acquired from several different sources and teachers over the years. In a sense, I play the role of a practice coach as well as instructor, and help them develop good practice techniques.

Finally, I’m a firm believer in beneficial "by-products" of cello lessons. I believe valuable life lessons can be learned with the aid of music lessons, including discipline, creativity, problem solving, team work, perseverance, critical thinking skills, and much more. Through music lessons, these principles can be practiced and established for life.

If you wish to begin lessons, then I welcome to the beautiful world of cello playing! Send me a message to get in touch!
